Consulting FAQs

  • What services do you offer as a nonprofit consultant?

We provide organizational assessments, strategic planning, grant writing, program planning/implementation, restructuring, capacity building, and training to help nonprofits improve their operations and achieve their goals.

If you need help with something that isn’t on the list- reach out and we can chat about if we already offer that service!

  • How long does it take to see results from working with you?

Results can vary depending on the scope of the project, but many nonprofits see improvements within a few months, especially with strategic planning, management training, and program planning/implementation initiatives.

  • What is the typical process when you start working with a nonprofit?

First, we’ll discuss your needs and goals. Then, I’ll assess the organization’s current situation through interviews, surveys, and reviewing documents. If you’re local and in-person, I may even stop by for observation of your day-to-day processes!

Based on this, I’ll propose an action plan that aligns with your objectives.

  • Do you work with specific types of nonprofits?

While I work with a variety of nonprofits, I have particular experience in social services, homelessness, domestic violence, and religious organizations. If your nonprofit has a unique mission, let’s discuss how I can tailor my services to fit.

  • How can we ensure that the changes you recommend are sustainable?

I focus on creating strategies that empower your team, build capacity, and are functional for your agency.

My goal is to leave your organization with the tools, knowledge, and structures needed to sustain changes well into the future.

Grant Writing FAQs

  • What is a grant writer, and what do they do?

A grant writer is a professional who specializes in planning, writing, and submitting proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, government entities, or other private funders. They help nonprofits align their goals with available funding opportunities.

  • What’s the typical timeline for writing a grant proposal?

Depending on the complexity of the grant, writing a proposal can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. It's important to start early to ensure thorough research and to avoid rushing through the process.

  • How do you ensure our grant proposal is competitive?

I ensure that your proposal is well-researched, clearly written, and aligned with the funder’s goals. I also focus on making your organization stand out by highlighting your unique impact, clear objectives, and measurable outcomes.

  • What is the success rate for grants you write?

90% of the grants I write are awarded. However, I often request more than the minimum needed to ensure the project is fully funded, so it's not uncommon to receive slightly less than the requested amount. Over the course of my career, I've helped organizations secure over $6 million in grant funding.

  • What’s the cost of hiring you as a grant writer?

My fees are typically based on the complexity of the project and the level of work required. For non-federal grants, a 2% non-refundable deposit is required and, once the grant is awarded, an additional 3% is charged.

Let’s discuss your needs to provide a more accurate quote.

  • What information do you need from us to start working on a grant proposal?

I’ll need details about your organization, the project for which you’re seeking funding, a project budget (I can also help you with this, if needed), and any documentation that supports the need for funding (such as financial statements, annual reports, and past performance data).

I will guide you through the process to ensure we have everything necessary to secure your funding!

  • Will you help us after the grant proposal is submitted?

Yes, I can assist with follow-up communication, helping you understand reporting requirements, and give general grant management advise to ensure that you meet funders' expectations and remain in good standing for future funding opportunities.
